Research Description

  • My primary research interest lies in examining the relationships among the welfare state, class and gender inequality, family relations, and demographic outcomes. My dissertation demonstrates the mechanisms through which supportive environments for families and gender equality shape women’s marriages and fertility, in relation to both fertility behavior and the realization of fertility intentions. My dissertation draws upon the unique social context of South Korea, focusing on the speed and sheer magnitude of its demographic transition, its institutional context of limited state support for women and families, and its high educational aspirations.
